Happy Birthday to You

My friends, I wonder if you are like me ... do you feel that Christmas has become something completely "other" than what we originally deemed the date for in celebration of the birthday of the Christ's birth on December 25? Although it's not the exact birthdate of Christ, the fact remains, we have set aside a time that is to be honoring of the biggest birthday that ever deserved to be celebrated. The gift of His birth was and is a massive gift to each of us that know Jesus Christ as Savior, and mostly as a reflection of the heart of the Creator Who knew this scrambled world needed a Deliverer even as long as 2000 years ago to effect all of eternity for so many. When we read through the book of Matthew, we learn He was born in a lowly way to a virgin mother, to die one day in a wicked excruciating manner on the cross, to rise from the dead, to breathe and flourish again in all of His perfection with those scars to prove it, so that we might live through Him and Him t

Body, Soul and Spirit

Romans 8:1       There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.    Have you ever thought about who you are... what makes you tick... or, the core of your existence?  Have you sat and pondered the idea of life after death?  Maybe you've heard people speak of body, soul and spirit, but to you, this is merely a phrase that describes some type of spa experience alluding to total relaxation through meditation or pampering. Actually, human beings are made up of a SPIRIT who has a SOUL who lives in a BODY.  Initially, this may be too deep of a concept to grasp, but  once we fully understand these three aspects of our being, we can obtain a clearer understanding of how God's Word brings life to the total person. When God said, "Let us make man in our image," He was referring to the fact that man is a triune being in much the same way that God is a trinity. While God is only ONE, t

Forgive, Because You Have Been Forgiven

Forgive. You've Been Forgiven. Mornings are a great time to pray, the earlier, the better because the house is quiet and the demands for my attention are just about nil. Not only that but, biblically, there is a clear precedent throughout the Word of God that establishes a model of rising early and having a designated place to pray. It is the way we should plan to meet with God every day. One early morning I did just that. I met with the Lord in prayer. During my prayer time, I vividly remember the Lord saying, through the inward whisper of the Holy Spirit, I want you to go to Bethany and ask her for forgiveness. For what Lord? , I said. I've done nothing to her. Why should I have to go? I won't. He said, I want you to go and ask Bethany to forgive you. I continued to reason, But, Lord, it's not me, it's her. I don't have anything against her. You will go , He said. Yes, Lord, I will go. For if you forgive men when they sin ag

God Heals In Spite of Rebellion

Psalms 107:20 KJV "He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from THEIR DESTRUCTIONS."  Did you know that God wants to  heal us from our own ignorant behaviors that have caused our sicknesses ?   Many years ago, I was seeking the Lord on how to pray for someone who was 70 years old and bleeding to death from an aneurysm. Was it right for me to pray for them to be healed? They had been an alcoholic their entire life... plus, they were old. Had they lived out their days? Was it their time to die? In my human heart, I even justified their demise because, after-all, they brought their suffering upon them self.   Anyway, as I desperately sought the Lord on this persons behalf, the Lord revealed to me that He wanted to heal them IN SPITE OF THEIR REBELLION.  Why?   Psalm 107:21 KJV "Oh  that men would praise the Lord for his goodness , and for his wonderful works to the children of men!" My answer for "why" God would

Refinement and Reflections

Refinement and Reflections Several years ago when I went through the fires of refinement and faced a serious and potentially fatal health challenge, I asked myself, as well as God, many questions. How did I find myself in this furnace of affliction? God, am I being sifted? God, am I being disciplined? Am I being punished? Are you going to let me be destroyed?   My husband and I were out walking by a large pond in our neighborhood. We live in the Lowcountry of South Carolina and our ponds are full of alligators. We have blue herons, snowy egrets, cormorants, ospreys, red-tailed hawks, ibis, and wood storks, all of which make our walks so incredibly delightful. That day, the gators were out in full force. There must have been five or six that we saw on our short walk. For the first time ever we heard an alligator growl. Our neighbors who were walking several steps ahead stopped and shouted back, "Hey, did you hear that?" "Yes," I
